Mission trip update
My last blog post was almost two weeks ago — not surprising. The last two weeks of August are always a crazy time for me at the newspaper where I work, because of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, which we obviously spend a lot of time and effort covering. In the middle of that, my desktop computer at home died and I had to replace it. I didn’t have much time for blogging.
That last post was a copy of the letter I had sent out to friends and family about a mission trip I plan to take next summer to Uganda through Raise The Roof Academy.
I sent a followup e-mail yesterday to the people who received my first ask letter. I am very pleased with the way that my fund-raising has started off. I have raised $570, from friends, a family member and the church where my father preaches. I also have a generous pledge that won’t be paid until around the first of the year. I still have a long way to go, of course; the total that I have to send to RTRA will be about $3,500, depending on air fare. And there will be a few other costs that I’ll pay out-of-pocket. But I think this is a strong start, and it helps to confirm that this was God’s call and not just me wanting to go on another trip.
